Chairperson Raymond Shannon Steps Down Oct 18, 2016

After 4 very busy years as Chairperson of New Gorbals Housing Association, Raymond Shannon stepped down at our AGM this September.

During Raymond’s time as Chairperson we have completed a number of  landmark projects. The award winning development in Laurieston, launch of the Thriving Place initiative in Gorbals, and the introduction of Welfare Rights Officers to the Association are all testament to Raymond’s unwavering commitment to the regeneration of the area and his belief that the community deserve the highest possible quality of housing and services.

Raymond Shannon said;

“It has been an honour to be Chairperson and work with fellow committee members on behalf of the Gorbals community. I am proud of the milestones that the Association has reached in my time as chairperson. The landscape of the area itself has changed, with the completion of the high rise demolitions, as well as the development of new build projects in Laurieston and Hutchesontown.

There have also been other major developments for those living in the area. The introduction of Welfare Rights Officers has helped to bring in £3.1M additional income for our tenants, and the Thriving Place community engagement initiative is supporting our already strong community to work together to make the area an even better place to live.”

Raymond is a lifelong Gorbals resident, and became a New Gorbals Housing Association tenant in 2010.  Raymond has been volunteering his time and skills as a member of the Management Committee since 2010 and will continue to do so under new Chairperson Linda Malone.

Linda was elected as Chairperson at our Annual General Meeting on 13th September 2016.

Linda Malone said;

“I am looking forward to working on behalf of my community, our tenants and other customers, in my new role. I will continue to build on the great work that Raymond has done over the last 4 years. ”
